The Unexpected Guest and The Plage are two of my favourites albums from Demon, together with the debut Night of the Demon. But it is not only a cheesy pop reference, indeed The visit of the storks was unexpected, and it was during Covid lockdown times.
I have never been too patient not I have a knowledge of birds, but this opportunity was certainly way too good to let go. Of course, it was also a good opportunity to get to know them a bit.
It was, I presume, a family, as there was a young one oftentimes.
They would come in the evenings, to roost. I would see them up in the crane at night too, but I didn’t take any pictures at night
This was, not to forget the title, during the plage, you know, Covid times, so it was a rare opportunity at the time to contact and socialize, with those georgeos birds
They would come in the evenings, to roost. I would see them up in the crane at night too, but I didn’t take any pictures at night, mostly because I didn’t believe they would be any good.
Looking at eachother through our ceiling window. Sometimes they would land on our roof and walk, sometimes in the night, andyou would hear them. Perhaps they had some imsomnia? It was definitely, interesting times, so I can imagine they had something to brood about
Because they mostly came in the evening, all pictures are taken in the evening light, all handheld.
Mostly they were taken with a 55—210 Sony (kit) lens and I tried a cheap mirror lens. Those can be fun, but this one is more challenging than anything.
All that lead to fairly muted colors, which I don’t dislike
We did, of course, try to find out where their nest was. And we did succeed. Their nest is located a few kilometeres north from where we live, on the top of a vent. it is a business, so I think it is great they let them nest there.
Since the crane is gone and, possibly there is more activity around here now that The Virus is… gone, they do not come around any more. But we pay regular visits to them. It is a joy when we discover they have chicks and see their heads bobbing in the nest.
We still see storks aroud, but mostly on the fields, hunting, never again so close. So you know, if you ever have such a chance to observe an animal, just do. Probably they are as curious as you are.
